And Now, Something Nice...

This may be my last post on this blog; Google / Blogger is changing the interface format of the platform to better suit people who use their smart phones and similar devices to look at the Internet. I don;t have either; I use a desktop computer, and the new format simply does not work with it. I shall try the Windows 10 machine, to see if that helps, and we'll try to keep on posting as best we can. In the meantime, let's have some good news: From Murr dur Oboe, Homicidal Nylss Mercenary: "I love my painting kit. Thank you so much for this. I’ve already painted the two minis that you gave me." One of the Shieldmaidens, who plays Murr in my Tekumel campaign, was a guest at our Anniversary event and mentioned that she was interested in getting to learn how to paint miniature figures. Well, nobody was there for me, fifty years back, so in consultation with Dr. Hannah, Ace Painter at The Source Comics & Games I got Murr a little 'starter' kit with paint, brushes, palette, and brush cleaner - I also got a carry case to put it all in. Dr. Hannah also suggested a couple of miniatures to go with, as 'starter figures', and these wer packed in with the tools. It worked. Murr is a great painter; her very first two miniatures are in the top two photos, and she enjoyed painting them so much she went and got herself a Reaper 'Bone Dragon' with the results you can see in the lower photos. I love it when this happens. It's why I'm in this hobby. I got very lucky, and got to know some really amazing people back in the day, and I try to pass that good onward. We'll tally this one as a success... :) (Edit: The 'preview' looks nothing like what appears on the blog. I'm working on it.)

  1. I for one would hate to see you go. You could always look at exporting this blog and moving it to Wordpress.

  2. While I agree the new blogger interface does not look great, it do seem to be workable, at least in Firefox on Linux. I do agree the mobile experience often ends up less pleasant for those of us who like to use the full experience of a big screen (...and have old eyes...)

    1. Agreed. I do not have the devices that Google wants me to have, nor the software they want me to use. We'll see what we can do.

  3. You should be still able to post on a desktop. I want you to know that your view of gaming and such is important historical knowledge. Do not drop your torch before you have to. Your blog has taught myself and others who choose to seek your knowledge so very much and I promise you, it's methods will be passed on. Keep posing and spreading your knowledge.

    1. We'll try. I'd like to keep the thing going, and we'll see what we can do.

  4. re. the blogger interface. You have the option to switch back to the old interface but you have to do it before a certain date IIRC.

  5. I'm sorry to hear you might be shutting down Chirine. I've enjoyed reading your posts. Thank you for sharing!

  6. I really hope this isn't the end of your blogging adventure. I love your combination of "tales of the good old days" and "modern day fun", and find it very inspirational.

    I. too, am finding this new interface a total nightmare, and am currently planning a "blogging holiday" later in the month, when I can free up some time to really try to get to grips with the clunky, non-intuitive, new interface being forced upon us.

    1. But there is an option to revert back! I took one look at the new interface and reverted back, making sure to send feedback as to why...which is basically the stuff Chirene mentions.

    2. Agreed with both of you. The option to go back runs out in September, and we'll have to think of something before that happens.

    3. The last message from Blogger I saw said August 24, but I believe it's a rolling program. I'm trying to cram in as much as possible using the legacy interface at the moment, so I have a cushion when I decide to take my "break".

  7. Congratulations to the new painter!

As for Blogger, I'd just start a Wordpress blog and link back to this one for the archives. But do whatever you're most comfortable with. I have very little experience with website design, but I use Wordpress and it's been pretty simple. https://themichlinguide.wordpress.com/
